On August 12th, 2024, KinderEye provided four children at Meten-Meer-Zorg Primary School with eyeglasses in collaboration with the Guyana Ministry of Health's School Health Program. Meten-Meer-Zorg is located in Guyana's Essequibo, West Demerara region. This initiative was a part of a larger effort by the Ministry, which has partnered with over 20 optical services in Guyana to improve children's access to vision care nationally.
Headmistresses, teachers, and parents played a vital role in identifying students who had difficulty seeing the blackboard in the classroom. Nearly 20 students were screened on-site, and four students were found to need glasses. These four children then received their new eyeglasses at Meten-Meer-Zorg Primary School and were excited to choose their favorite style and color frames. The glasses provided by our program include durable frames, straps, and cases, which are ideal for children to wear comfortably during school and play.
The following photos depict the eye testing at Meten-Meer-Zorg Primary School and a few of the students with their new glasses! With support from our partners, we aim to continue to empower students, such as the ones at Meten-Meer-Zorg Primary School, to thrive in school without the barrier of poor vision.
